Penang van crash: Three victims discharged from hospital


GEORGE TOWN: Three Singaporean tourists involved in the van accident at Bukit Genting on Sunday (Sept 24) night have been discharged from hospital.

Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said on Monday (Sept 25) that the victims were discharged after receiving treatment.

"They are scheduled to return home on Tuesday (Sept 26)," he added.

Wong said three others, including the Malaysian van driver, were warded at Penang General Hospital and two more were at a private hospital.

According to Wong, two of the tourists at Penang GH suffered broken bones and require further examination.

However, all the victims are in stable condition, he added.

In the 8pm incident, a van ferrying 10 tourists from Singapore plunged into a ravine at Bukit Genting.

It is learnt that the victims were on their way back to their hotel after having dinner at a restaurant near Bukit Genting.

The van reportedly skidded and plunged over 6m into a ravine and a 62-year-old female tourist was killed in the crash.

The rescue operation ended by 10.26pm.
